Hello, in this post I’ll review the book The Inheritance games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. The Inheritance Games (Inheritance Games Series #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Paperback | Barnes & Noble®

To begin, this book was especially hard to put down due to the constant cliffhangers that the plot revolves around. In short, Avery Grambs: a poor highschool student living with older sister Libby is called down to the office at school: where she meets Grayson Hawthorne, one of 4 grandons of Tobias Hawthorne, a billionaire who recently passed away. It goes on to describe how Avery must be present for the reading of his will. The thing with Tobias Hawthrone is that he was known for his games or puzzles in which his grandsons would compete to find any number of complicated clues to win the game. It is then implied that this is his final game, leaving almost all of his fortune to a seemingly clueless girl no one has ever heard of. The plot of the book revolves around figuring out why, why give a lifetime of earrings to someone no one knows, over his own family. Because of this, all clues could be interpreted differently by each grandson, all with the same end goal. This is why it was so hard to put down; there’s never a good place to stop because one clue always leads to something else. Additionally, the way the relationships between characters add together and gradually grow is another reason I believe it’s so interesting. In previous games, all grandsons had physical clues, objects with hidden meanings or strategic metaphors within simple clues, but this time; the clue is Avery, one person with their own ideologies and thought processes who may not even be interested in playing. The way each brother’s personality affects how they solve not just a game but a person makes the book increasingly addictive. This book does however have some weak points, because it’s the kind of book to keep the reader guessing after each chapter, it also insures that you make assumptions and form opinions on the plot: so when those notions are wrong, you have to rethink your entire stance on not only the characters but also how the book will develop from there and if it’s just a bunch of games or one complex puzzle with multiple parts. On the contrary, this creates an effect of unpredictability which as mentioned keeps you entranced  and that is why overall I’d definitely recommend this book, especially to those who enjoy quick paced arduous stories.
